This past semester, I decided to take a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) from Indiana University on Information Visualization which, besides offering great coverage of current visualization conventions in academia and publishing, also featured a module on their proprietary software Sci2.
I think it was a great opportunity to both learn the material and experience a distance, team project. My group worked on building a visualization of the history of psychoanalysis.
In the future, I may consider taking another course, perhaps in coding or a refresher on statistical methods. If others are interested, an aggregated list of current moocs is available at: www.class-central.com.
